SUBJECT: MAN & MACHINE: WORKING TOGETHER TO REDUCE THE CYBERSECURITY PROBLEM
GUEST SPEAKER: Carl Luca, Sr Cyber Security Engineer, CYBRAICS
BIO: Carl is a Sr. Cyber Security Engineer at Cybraics where he leads efforts to design and implement the most advanced security analytics and artificial intelligence platform, delivered as a service. With a wealth of knowledge in advanced threat tactics and security vulnerabilities, Carl is able to work with customers to ensure effective security postures and assist with incident response and vulnerability management. Carl’s initial time at Cybraics was spent perfecting security analytics at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) where he served as a Cyber Security SME, working alongside Data Scientists to help them understand the critical needs of incident responders and threat hunters.
Prior to Cybraics, Carl was a Sr. Information Security Engineer at the Secretary of Defense Communications (SDC) organization, providing dedicated communications security, decision support, and cyber threat situational awareness to the secretary and deputy secretary of defense, their immediate offices, and designated special emissaries. Other positions held include Security Operations Analyst at Department of Justice (DOJ), Cyber Fusion Analyst at the Defense Information Security Agency (DISA), Threat Intelligence/Vulnerability Management Consultant at Allstate, and Oracle Applications DBA at US Air Force. Outside of Cybraics Carl serves as a Military Intelligence Officer in the US Army Reserve where he currently commands a MI Company. Carl’s military experience includes HUMINT/Counterintelligence, battlefield forensics, intelligence gathering and dissemination, conventional and non-conventional warfare, and media exploitation. Carl graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery, where he earned a master’s degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management with a concentration in Cyber Warfare and a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems Data Storage Management.
