The Lowcountry Chapter of AFCEA South Carolina presents in cooperation with SPAWAR Atlantic, and DOD DMCO, the Semantic Technology Symposium Series!

This event will feature Dennis Wisnosky, Chief Technical Officer and Chief Architect, Office of the Deputy Chief Management Officer, U.S. Department of Defense. Mr. Wisnosky is leading the transformation of architecture-driven business systems / services development and deployment, and the need for enterprise architecture standards, domain ontologies, and the utilization of semantic technology to support data interoperability. As Mr. Wisnosky presents the Department’s strategy, he will also give an overview of the work being done towards realizing efficiency and interoperability within the DoD by demonstrating a new management tool his team recently developed utilizing Semantic Technologies.

This full day of presentations and demonstrations featuring the application of Semantic Technologies to solve real world problems. This event is designed to showcase projects that have successfully developed and are working to deploy semantic based solutions.

Semantic Technology Symposium Flyer 21 March 2012

We at AFCEA take great pride in furthering educational opportunities for students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math related degrees. It gives us great pleasure to announce, with much excitement, that we now have 4 scholarship and grant programs to help enable students and teachers to fulfill their dreams!

Our STEM Education Scholarship is ran by the AFCEA Educational Foundation and is for students currently pursuing STEM education degrees.

AFCEA NC Academic Scholarships award $3,000 to full time students of neighboring counties or those who meet other qualifying criterion.

AFCEA NC Grants are available for Active Duty military personnel who are members of the AFCEA NC Chapter, among other qualifying details.

Most notably, the AFCEA NC Science Teaching Tools Awards give $1,000 grants to schools with a demonstrated need to teach science courses. In 2011, AFCEA NC was able to donate 21 $1,000 scholarships to various local schools.

On March 8, 2012 we proudly welcome Mr. Bill Lasher, Army Forces Command G-6. Registration is free to the first 60 guests on our monthly luncheon page!

Bill Lasher was appointed to the Senior Executive Service (SES) on June 20, 2010. As the DCS, G-6, he provides vision, direction, oversight and management of the FORSCOM, DCS, G-6, with general staff responsibility for directing and supervising tactical Information Technology (IT) readiness of FORSCOM units as well as training and readiness of FORSCOM’s Signal units. He also oversees IT services provided to Headquarters, FORSCOM. Prior to his selection into the SES, he served as Chief, Network Services Division, FORSCOM G-6, which provided network and information services to Headquarters, FORSCOM, and Forts McPherson and Gillem. He was responsible for the planning and preparation of the movement of FORSCOM’s IT services and infrastructure in support of the Headquarters’ move to Fort Bragg, NC.
