SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FULL TIME COLLEGE STUDENTS

 

APPLICATION QUALIFICATIONS:                                         DUE DATE MAR 31,  2012

1.  Several scholarships up to the amount of about $3000 each will be awarded to applicants who are residents of these North Carolina counties near Ft. Bragg and Pope AFB:  Cumberland, Moore, Harnett, Sampson, Bladen, Robeson, Hoke, Scotland, Richmond, Montgomery, or Lee counties. 

 

1a. If applicant is not from these counties, the applicant is eligible if he/she is a dependent of an employee, or applicant is an employee at Ft. Bragg or Pope AFB.  This includes civilian, military or contractors.

 

2.   The scholarships are open to returning college students and new college applicants and may be previous winners of a scholarship from the NC Chapter of AFCEA.

 

3.  The student must apply the scholarship toward tuition, fees and books in 2012.  The scholarship winners may be requested to provide a copy of all receipts for college expenses for which the scholarship amount was used to the NC Chapter of AFCEA.  Any unused scholarship amount must be refunded to the NC Chapter of AFCEA upon request. 

4.  The scholarship will be awarded when applicant is accepted or shows proof of enrollment at an accredited college and provides this information, in writing, to the NC Chapter of AFCEA.   In 2009, ten (10) scholarships were awarded for a total of $30,000. 

The application package must be postmarked or delivered by April 9, 2012 and should contain only the following: (Make sure packages are complete and in the order requested.)

EDUCATION GRANTS - ACTIVE MILITARY COLLEGE STUDENTS

North Carolina Chapter 

Education Grant Program

I PURPOSE

To provide education grants for active duty personnel of all ranks who have taken the initiative to better themselves by working towards an advanced academic degree.

II POLICY
These education grants will be awarded to students who have demonstrated academic ability and meet all the criteria established in the following:

A. Qualifications:

1.      Must be an active duty member of the United States Armed Forces.

2.      Must be a current member in good standing with the North Carolina Chapter of AFCEA during the course which is being used to apply for the grant.

3.      Must have completed a course of study in an accredited degree program, with a grade of B or higher.  Applications must be postmarked within three (3) months of course completion.

4.      May not be used for a lower or previously awarded degree.

5.      Must not have received an AFCEA Education Grant in the same calendar year.

6.      Student financial need is not a criterion.

B. Selection:

1.      Applications are available at this website, www.afcea-nc.org.  Completed packages should be forwarded by each individual to:

Please allow approximately three weeks for processing.  A letter and grant check will be sent by First Class Mail.

2.      Selections will be made with no regard to race, color, creed, sex or national origin.

3.      Applicant must complete a "Statement of Understanding/ Privacy" to be submitted along with the application form.

C. Education Grants

1.      Grants shall consist of reimbursement for "out-of-pocket-expenses/costs" for completion of qualified courses.   No receipts are required.2.      Students may re-apply each calendar year if they continue to meet the qualifications.

D. Disbursement of Funds.

1.      Education grants will be funded to qualified candidates. The AFCEA North Carolina Chapter is dedicated to helping our active duty members meet their financial needs.  Grants are limited to a maximum of $200.00 per individual per calendar year. Education grants will be mailed directly to the Education Grant recipient.

2.      AFCEA North Carolina Chapter reserves the right to suspend distribution of the education grants if funding is not available. 



SCIENCE TEACHING AWARDS

Every year, the North Carolina Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) grants several awards up to the amount of $1,000 each to schools in Cumberland County and surrounding areas. These awards are given to schools with a demonstrated need for money to buy tools, equipment, or material for teaching science courses,{Webster's definition of science: Using the systematic knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.} Applications are now being accepted for this year's Science Teaching Tools Awards. To apply, send an email with the name of your school in the subject line containing the following information to the address below:

  • Science teacher's (applicant's) name
  • Name and address of the school
  • State the objective(s) of the project or program
  • Description of the project/program to be funded
  • List of items to be purchased
  • Email applications to [email protected] .
  • Applications must be received by 1 March 2012

This chapter is located in Fayetteville, NC.  AFCEA is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting and promoting technology in the military and the community of First Responders.
