March 2014 Luncheon

Guest Speaker: Chris Estes

Chris Estes was appointed by Governor Pat McCrory as North Carolina’s State Chief Information Officer in January of 2013. As a member of the governor’s executive team, he provides oversight of information technology projects and manages IT operations for state agencies. Chris and his leadership team are executing the state’s strategy to improve IT governance, increase government efficiency, and modernize North Carolina’s technology infrastructure.

Chris led a collaborative effort by state IT leaders to establish the Innovation Center in Raleigh, a lab where state employees, students and industry work together in a “try before you buy” approach to testing information technology systems. As an advocate for STEM education, he also works with our K – 12 schools and universities to encourage students to pursue careers in technology.

Chris has over twenty five years of experience in the high-tech, manufacturing and financial services industries for leading brands PwC, IBM, BearingPoint, EMC, and most recently at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he was a Principal in the Strategy, Technology, and Innovation practice. He attended Yale University’s Strategic Leadership program and earned his bachelor’s degree from Mercer University.
